btclyzer vs Glassnode

Glassnode is the on-chain reference catalog — MVRV, NUPL, SOPR, Realized Cap. btclyzer is a fused BUY/SELL/HODL rating. Different abstraction layers, different jobs.

TL;DR

Glassnode is where on-chain metrics were invented and codified. If you want to study individual ratios, build cycle models, or screenshot charts of NUPL for a Twitter thread — that's Glassnode. btclyzer takes a curated subset of those ratios (via the CBBI cycle index) plus technical and sentiment data and fuses them into a single rating you can read in five seconds. Not an apples-to-apples replacement — Glassnode is the data, btclyzer is the verdict.

What each one actually is

Glassnode built much of the modern on-chain vocabulary: MVRV, MVRV-Z, NUPL, SOPR, Realized Cap, HODL Waves, Spent Output Age Bands, Puell Multiple, Reserve Risk. The platform exposes hundreds of metrics as individual time-series charts with annotations, alerts and CSV exports. Free tier has a useful but limited slice; paid plans (Advanced, Professional, Enterprise) range from ~$29/month to enterprise pricing.

btclyzer is Bitcoin-only and outputs a BUY/SELL/HODL rating across five timeframes. The rating is the weighted vote of eight technical indicators plus three contextual layers: Fear & Greed (sentiment), the CBBI Bitcoin Bull Run Index (cycle, itself built from MVRV-Z, Puell, RHODL, Pi cycle and a few more) and CFTC COT institutional positioning (PRO / ENHANCED only). One rating, one confidence number, no metric-by-metric study required.

When to pick Glassnode

  • You're a researcher or analyst — you want to study individual metrics and build your own theses.
  • You need data exports (CSV) for spreadsheets or reports.
  • You care about the breakdown of long-term vs short-term holder cohorts (LTH / STH series).
  • You want metric-level alerts (e.g., "alert me when MVRV-Z crosses 7").
  • Your budget fits the analytics-tier pricing.

When to pick btclyzer

  • You want a verdict from the same data, without studying each metric yourself.
  • You like that CBBI compresses MVRV-Z, Puell, RHODL, Pi cycle and others into one cycle score — and that score then contributes to a single rating.
  • You want a multi-timeframe view side-by-side without configuring per-metric chart pairs.
  • $5/month fits your budget for ENHANCED + email alerts + portfolio tracker.

The honest take

Glassnode and btclyzer aren't really in the same product category — one is a data catalog, the other is a fused rating. The closest meeting point is the CBBI index, which already incorporates several Glassnode-pioneered ratios in compressed form. If you're going to read MVRV-Z and Puell raw every day, Glassnode is the right tool. If you'd rather have those signals contribute (with proper weights) to a one-line answer, that's what btclyzer is for. Read our CBBI explainer to see exactly which on-chain ratios feed the rating.

Frequently asked

Is btclyzer a free Glassnode alternative?

Only for the verdict use case. Glassnode is the gold-standard on-chain catalog. btclyzer doesn't expose those raw series. What btclyzer does offer for free is a CBBI cycle index (which itself folds in several Glassnode-style on-chain ratios) plus a BUY/SELL/HODL rating that incorporates that data. If you want individual metric charts, stay with Glassnode.

Does btclyzer use Glassnode data?

No direct Glassnode feed. The on-chain inputs come from mempool.space (hashrate, mempool, fees, recent blocks) and from the CBBI index (which aggregates public on-chain ratios including MVRV-Z, RHODL ratio, Puell Multiple). For ENHANCED, CFTC COT positioning is also folded in.

How does CBBI compare to Glassnode metrics?

The CBBI is itself a fused index combining ~8 on-chain and cycle indicators that Glassnode pioneered or popularised (MVRV-Z, Puell Multiple, Pi cycle, 2-Year MA Multiplier, RHODL ratio, etc.). btclyzer uses CBBI as a single value (0-100) instead of plotting each component separately.

Pricing — what's the gap?

Glassnode has a free tier (limited, delayed) and paid plans from ~$29/month up to enterprise quotes. btclyzer is free for the full STANDARD dashboard and $5/month for PRO.
